Tag 8 – Day 8

The next morning we went in the direction of Yoho – and Banff NP. On the way there was a trail to Thompson Falls. 5 km there and back. Still, the march was pretty strenuous. It had rained during the night and the forest floor was accordingly muddy and also very smooth due to the wet roots. You had to be very careful not to fall into one of the large puddles.

We then drove up the road to Emerald Lake. On the way there was a stop at the Natural Bridge of the Kicking Horse River.

Once at Emerald Lake, it was difficult to find a parking space. The weather was terrible. Nevertheless, one could guess what a beautiful color the lake must have in the sunshine.

At a view point at the confluence of the Yoho and Kicking Horse Rivers you couldn’t see too much because of the many trees.

Da unser Tagespass aus Mt. Revelstoke NP 24 Std.

Since our day pass from Mt. Revelstoke NP was valid for 24 hours, we could also use it to visit Yoho and Banff NP. Incidentally, you have to stick the receipt to the windshield. We then first went to Lake Louise. There are parking spaces on several levels. We didn’t get anything down by the lake, there was nothing free on the second level and we couldn’t park on the third level because my wife can’t walk that far. Since it was so crowded and the weather so bad, we drove to Lake Morraine, which is quite a bit further away from Lake Louise. We had a hard time getting a parking space here, but I didn’t like it that much at the lake. The mountains were shrouded in clouds and the water also didn’t have the typical color you know from pictures.

But we met a cute chipmunk that was walking around here between the many visitors and begging for nuts.

Diese Tiere sind wirklich ausgesprochen hübsch. These animals are really pretty.

After visiting Morraine Lake, we drove the Bow Valley Parkway. This is a road that runs parallel to Highway 1. Because of the many wild animals, you can only drive 60 km / h here.

There are several references to the dangers of wildlife.

As we approached Canmore for the night, the weather finally got better and the sun was shining in Canmore itself. We had booked the Ramada here for 2 nights. In the evening we had a delicious meal at the Grizzly Paw Brewery. You had to wait 20 minutes to get a seat, but it was worth it. Food and beer were highly recommended.
