Rottnest IslandAm nächsten Morgen mussten wir früh aufstehen, weil ich eine Tour nach Rottnest Island gebucht hatte.Das ist eine Ferieninsel nicht weit von Perth entfernt und bei Perthianern und Touristen sehr beliebt.
Es gibt hierfür zwei Möglichkeiten:
Entweder man startet in Fremantle, dem Hafen von Perth, was aber eine knappe halbe Stunde von Perth entfernt ist, oder man startet vom Elisabeth Quay mitten in Perth.
Ich hatte mich für die zweite Möglichkeit entschieden, da der Start mit Rottnest Express nur ca. 5 Minuten von unserem Hotel entfernt war.
Fahrräder für die autofreie Insel hatte ich direkt mitbestellt. Man bekam über die Seite von “Hello Perth” sogar einen 15 % Ermässigungs-Code.
The next morning we had to get up early because I had booked a tour to Rottnest Island. This is a resort island not far from Perth and very popular with Perthians and tourists. There are two ways to do this: Either you start in Fremantle, the port of Perth, which is about half an hour away from Perth, or you start from Elisabeth Quay in the middle of Perth. I chose the second option because the Rottnest Express start was only about 5 minutes from our hotel. I had also ordered bicycles for the car-free island. You even got a 15% discount code on the Hello Perth page.
Die Fahrt ging durch die Biegungen des Swan River. Über Lautsprecher wurden die Sehenswürdigkeiten auf beiden Ufern vorgestellt.
Dies ist zum Beispiel die ehemalige Swan Brewery. Das Bier war aber lt. Aussage so schlecht, weil es mit dem Wasser des Swan River hergestellt wurde. 
Man zog dann irgendwann an einen anderen Standort.
The ride went through the bends of the Swan River. The sights on both banks were presented over loudspeakers. For example, this is the former Swan Brewery. According to the statement, the beer was so bad because it was made with the water of the Swan River. At some point they moved to a different location.
Hier sind wir schon ein Stück von Perth entfernt.
Here we are already a bit away from Perth.

Wie man sieht, war das Wetter hier noch etwas durchwachsen. Da wir draußen gesessen haben, war es auf dem Schiff ganz schön zugig.
Ich war froh ein dünnes Tuch als Schal dabei zu haben.
Bei der Ankunft auf der Insel konnten wir durch Vorzeigen eines QR-Codes, die Fahrräder direkt vom Schiff in Empfang nehmen.
As you can see, the weather here was still a bit mixed. Since we sat outside, it was pretty drafty on the ship. I was glad to have a thin cloth with me as a scarf. Upon arrival on the island, by showing a QR code, we were able to receive the bikes directly from the ship.
Das Wetter war auf der Insel viel besser und es gab immer weniger Wolken. Die Temperatur war zwar nur etwas über 20 Grad, aber die Sonne knallte ziemlich stark.
Da man in Australien ja ziemlich wegen Sonnenbrand aufpassen sollte, habe ich natürlich wegen des Wetters in Perth auf Sonnencreme verzichtet 
, was mir am Ende des Tages einen leichten Sonnenbrand im Gesicht und auf den Händen einbrachte.
Die Insel hat mir super gut gefallen. Es gibt zahlreiche Buchten mit traumhaften Stränden und auch ziemlich viele Hügel. Das merkte ich, als ich festgestellt habe, dass die Gangschaltung an meinem Fahrrad nicht funktioniert.
Ich konnte also nur im höchsten Gang fahren, was zur Folge hatte, dass ich das Fahrrad an den steilsten Hügeln schieben musste.
Ich muss noch erwähnen, dass ich erstmalig fast genauso viele Fotos mit dem Handy wie mit der Sony A77 II gemacht habe. Diese werde ich also im RB mixen.
The weather was much better on the island and there were fewer and fewer clouds. The temperature was only a little over 20 degrees, but the sun was beating down pretty hard. Since you have to be pretty careful about sunburn in Australia, of course I didn’t use sunscreen because of the weather in Perth, which resulted in a slight sunburn on my face and hands at the end of the day. I really liked the island. There are numerous bays with beautiful beaches and quite a few hills. I noticed that when I realized that the gears on my bike didn’t work. So I could only ride in top gear, which meant I had to push the bike up the steepest hills. I have to mention that for the first time I took almost as many photos with my cell phone as with the Sony A77 II. So I will mix these in the RB.

There are also some lakes on the island.
Die feinsandigen Strände und die Farben des Meers haben mich sehr beeindruckt.
I was very impressed by the fine sandy beaches and the colors of the sea.
Mal ein Wort zur Tierwelt.Diese Rabenvögel haben wir auf der ganzen Reise gesehen.Sie haben ein wahnsinnig lautes Organ, wie ein Kleinkind, das über ein Lautschprecher brüllt.
Vom Sound her gar keine Ähnlichkeit zu unseren Krähen/Raben.
A word about the animal world. We saw these corvids on the whole trip. They have an incredibly loud organ, like a small child roaring over a loudspeaker. In terms of sound, there is no resemblance to our crows/ravens.
Süß sind die Quokkas, eine kleine Känguruh-Art, die oft von Touris zu Selfies hergenommen werden. Die Quokkas sind der Grund für den Namen der Insel.
Der niederländische Entdecker der Insel hatte sie für Ratten gehalten und deshalb die Insel Rattennest Insel (Rottnest Island) genannt.
Die Ranger auf der Insel achten darauf, dass die Tiere nicht allzusehr belästigt werden. Ich konnte beobachten, wie eine Gruppe Chinesen einen einzelnen Quokka umlagerten, ein Ranger aber anhielt und die Meute verscheucht hat.
The quokkas are cute, a small kangaroo species that tourists often take for selfies. The quokkas are the reason for the island’s name. The Dutch discoverer of the island had mistaken them for rats and therefore called the island Rat’s Nest Island (Rottnest Island). The rangers on the island make sure that the animals are not disturbed too much. I saw a group of Chinese surround a single quokka, but a ranger stopped and chased the pack away.
Die Tiere konnte man auf der ganzen Insel finden, sogar zwischen den Stühlen und Tischen eines Cafe.
The animals could be found all over the island, even among the chairs and tables of a cafe.

Das ist der Pink Lake, der aber zur Zeit nicht besonders pink war.

Eine Bimmelbahn gab es auch.

Am Fährhafen hatten manche Bäume gestrickte Kleidung an.

Fazit Rottnest Island.
Eine, wie ich finde, sehr lohnende Tagestour.
Das Schiff braucht für eine Strecke ca. 2 Stunden und war mit 150 € für 2 Personen inkl. Fahrräder auch nicht zu teuer.
Kurz vor der Rückfahrt war ich so sehr mit der Rückgabe des Fahrrads beschäftigt, dass ich um ein Haar, meinen Fotorucksack auf der Kaimauer vergessen hätte.
Im letzten Moment hab ich es aber noch selber gemerkt.
Conclusion Rottnest Island.
In my opinion, a very worthwhile day trip. The ship takes about 2 hours one way and was not too expensive at €150 for 2 people including bicycles. Shortly before the return trip, I was so busy returning the bike that I almost forgot my photo backpack on the quay wall. But at the last moment I noticed it myself.
