Buckley’s Breakaway
Am nächsten Morgen sollte es dann langsam wieder in Richtung Perth gehen.
Auf Google Maps hatte ich zuhause nach Sehenswürdigkeiten in der Umgebung der Wave gesucht und eine Lokation namens Buckley’s Breakaway gefunden.
Das wollten wir uns noch mal kurz vor der Rückfahrt nach Perth ansehen.
Die Stelle war ca. 25 km von Hyden entfernt. Wir mussten dazu hauptsächlich auf einer Dirtroad fahren.
The next morning it should slowly go back towards Perth. I had searched Google Maps at home for points of interest around the Wave and found a location called Buckley’s Breakaway. We wanted to take a look at that again shortly before returning to Perth. The site was about 25 km from Hyden. We mainly had to drive on a dirt road.
Auf der Straße stand plötzlich, eins dieser roten Riesenkänguruhs. Als ich fotografieren wollte, hatte es sich aber schon in die Büsche geschlagen.
Dafür lief diese Echse im Schneckentempo über die Straße und wir mussten anhalten, um sie nicht zu überfahren.
Suddenly one of these red giant kangaroos stood on the street. When I wanted to take a picture, it had already hit the bushes. But this lizard ran across the street at a snail’s pace and we had to stop so as not to run over it.
Als Google Maps sagte, wir wären angekommen, war aber hier gar nix. So sind wir suchend weitergefahren und mussten wieder umkehren weil wir nichts gefunden hatten.
Als wir wieder zu der Stelle kamen, die Google Maps als Ziel ausgeben hatte, gab es doch einen kleinen Sandweg, den man vom Hauptweg abfahren konnte.
Und siehe da, hier gab es die üblichen Hinweistafeln zur Gegend und einen Trailhead.
When Google Maps said we had arrived, there was nothing here. So we drove on searching and had to turn back because we hadn’t found anything. When we got back to the place that Google Maps had given us as our destination, there was a small sandy path that you could turn off from the main path. And lo and behold, there were the usual information boards about the area and a trailhead.
Die Gegend gefiel mir. Es war so eine Art Abbruchkante die stark verwittert war und zeigte die verschiedenen Erd- und Gesteinsschichten.
I liked the area. It was a kind of demolition edge that was heavily weathered and showed the different layers of earth and rock.
Das Wetter war traumhaft und es war keine Menschenseele außer uns unterwegs. The weather was fantastic and there was not a soul on the road apart from us.
Das war ein lohnender kleiner Abstecher, wie ich finde.
Seltsam nur, dass auf dem Hauptweg keinerlei Hinweisschild gab, was das Finden zur Glückssache machte.
That was a worthwhile little detour, I think. The only strange thing is that there were no signs on the main path, which made finding it a matter of luck.
